Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to see Dr Robinson?
Yes. In Australia, a valid GP or specialist referral is required to receive Medicare rebates for your consultation and any procedures.

Can I use my private health insurance?
Yes, for surgery and in-hospital procedures. Outpatient consultations are not covered by private health insurance, but you will receive a partial reimbursement from medicare for this.

How long will I wait for an appointment?
Dr Robinson endeavours to see all new referrals within one week, although this is not always possible. For any referrals for acute injuries (such as fractures or dislocations), Dr Robinson will triage the referral within 24 hours and will call you promptly if the injury requires treatment more urgently than the next available consultation time.

What hospitals does Dr Robinson operate at?
Dr Robinson operates on private patients at Epworth Richmond, Warringal Private and Waverley Private Hospital. For publicly insured patients (ie. medicare card holders), he has public appointments at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Eastern Health (Box Hill, Maroondah and Blackburn), and Latrobe Regional Health.

How long will I wait for surgery?
Surgery can often be scheduled within a fortnight, depending on your condition, medical clearance, and availability. We prioritise patients with urgent needs or severe symptoms.

What if I don’t want surgery?
Surgery is only one option, and it is typically advisable to have "exhausted non-operative measures" such as physiotherapy, injections, bracing, and activity modification prior to embarking upon a surgical approach. Dr Robinson will work with you to develop a bespoke treatment path that aligns with your condition and goals.

Do you offer second opinions?
Absolutely. If you're unsure about a diagnosis or want to explore treatment options, Dr Robinson is happy to provide a thorough second opinion.

Do you see workcover or TAC patients?
Yes, we do see patients under WorkCover and TAC. Please ensure your claim is approved and bring all documentation and imaging to your appointment.
